Course History

24.013 will have live zoom meetings MWF. Those meetings will include whole-class discussions, breakout-room activities, and lectures. Depending on circumstances, there may be a few optional outdoor in-person events.

24.09 will have live zoom meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11-12 Eastern Time. Meetings will include lectures, discussion, and breakout-room activities. Recitation sections will meet live over zoom on Fridays.

Paradox and Infinity will operate virtually, using a "flipped classroom" format. The main course contents will be available online, via MITx, and will consist of a combination of videos and text. Students will be responsible for working through these contents in preparation for weekly recitation sections, which will be focused on student discussion. Recitation sections and office hours will be conducted over Zoom.

24.201 will be given live in Zoom classrooms from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. (Boston time) Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be lectures with frequent opportunities for questions and occasional breakout rooms for further discussion. Class sessions will be recorded for later viewing, and all course handouts will be made available on Stellar. There will be flexible Zoom office hours.

24.212 will have live zoom meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-12:30 Eastern Time. Meetings will include whole-class discussion, lectures, and breakout-room activities.

24.221 will have LIVE Zoom meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-11:30am Eastern Time. Those meetings will include whole-class discussions, breakout-room activities, and lectures.

24.241 will be taught with asynchronous lectures and weekly LIVE Zoom discussion meetings on Thursdays from 10-11:30 Eastern Time.

Philosophy of Language will meet live over zoom at the posted time. Meetings will include lectures, discussion, and group room activities.

Class will meet one hour a week via Zoom. In addition to an hour of class time per week, there will be a half hour of additional class "work"-- an assigned podcast, article, excerpt of a film, etc. Enrollment limited to 12 and will be determined on a first come, first serve basis. A waiting list will be established in case students drop out.

24.00 will be taught with asynchronous lectures and weekly live recitations (Fridays, various times) given by graduate student TAs.

One-hour lectures will occur LIVE on Zoom, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-11am Eastern Time. The lecture will be recorded and available for later viewing. One-hour recitations will be held by Teaching Assistants LIVE on Zoom weekly on Fridays. To better accommodate differences in time.

Ninety-minute lectures will occur LIVE on Zoom, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-2:30pm Eastern Time. The lecture will be recorded and available for later viewing. To better accommodate differences in time zones, there will be no set time for office hours. Students instead should email me to arrange a time to meet virtually.

This term 24.230 will be taught synchronously via Zoom. I will write up reading guides for each topic which students should read prior to reading the assigned articles -- the thought being that this will help them focus their reading on what's important for our purposes. Class time will be devoted to introducing central arguments, and discussion, often in small breakout room groups. Assignments will consist in short reading response papers throughout, a multimedia project where you lay out one of the debates in the class for a general audience (this could take various forms: podcast episode, op-ed piece, short movie, song, etc), a discursive (oral) examination of your final paper topic, and a final (5-10 page) paper.
