I will write up reading guides for each topic which students should read prior to reading the assigned articles -- the thought being that this will help them focus their reading on what's important for our purposes. Class time will be devoted to introducing central arguments, and discussion, often in small breakout room groups. Assignments will consist in short reading response papers throughout, a multimedia project where you lay out one of the debates in the class for a general audience (this could take various forms: podcast episode, op-ed piece, short movie, song, etc), a discursive (oral) examination of your final paper topic, and a final (5-10 page) paper. |
